A Somewhat Busy Week

Busy for me I mean. The reality is my evenings were all free but I can find it hard to get inspired to post anything in the evening. Plus, I got sucked into this game I’m playing and a lot of my time went there.

But I did have to take my car in on Monday. Cars today are much “smarter” than they used to be. There is some built in message when I hit a certain mileage that I’m due for an oil change. When you have the oil change done, the mechanic can reset the message. I’m not sure if it would ever go away on its own. Would be funny if after a certain amount of time ignoring it, that the message would change into something a little meaner.

Plus, I had to get my front tires replaced and the car realigned. Since I live in the middle of pothole country, that isn’t a big shock. As much as you try to avoid them, sooner or later, one pops up when you least expect it and can’t get out of the way. And the alignment caused uneven tire wear so we got it all fixed.

There is a major construction project to redo an interchange that wasn’t designed to handle the amount of traffic it currently gets. I understand the need for things like that but why can’t you find the budget to fix the local roads? To be fair, they send patching crews out all the time but that generally only lasts until the next freeze/thaw/rain cycle.

And I got my second set of shots on Thursday. One last set to go next week and then we will hopefully get another year out of my knees. The left one joined the party this time but the damage isn’t as bad there and it already felt better after the first shot. The right one was OK until my dance lessons this week and then it started to act up a bit. It usually requires the whole course of shots before it starts feeling better so it isn’t a shock that it started hurting a bit after the first shot.

On Sunday, we are going to the flower and patio show here. We go every year because it happens in early spring/late winter typically before we have flowers up so it is nice to go see some color. The main highlight is the landscaping firms that design dream patios that you can have in your own backyard (assuming you have the space and money).

They typically include some kind of outdoor kitchen/dining area. As I’ve said before, I’m not sure how well that works around here since you have a limited window when it would be nice to sit outside and eat. Of course, those times also correspond to when the insects are out and who wants to share a meal with mosquitos or yellow jackets? Plus, these displays typically use plants that don’t really thrive around here so, even if you did get one built, you’d probably lose a significant amount of what was planted.

But it is still interesting to see what people come up with. The expected weather is low 40’s even though we’ve had a spell of nicer weather but it always seems to be cold and winter like when we go. Just a tradition I think.
