Spring Sunday

Today was more like late spring with temperatures approaching 70. Think we are going to top that tomorrow before things get back to more normal early March conditions. Still, a day like today holds the promise of things to come and is just a invitation to get outside.

These are the roller coaster months when temperatures just bounce all over the place. It got warm enough inside the house that I ended up turning on the AC. Could have opened windows but we already have a few tress tossing pollen around and there was even a high pollen alert today. So, with my allergies, probably not the best option.

Last year, my wife bought a spring themed wreath to hang on the front door. I kept hearing the holder banging on the door and assumed it was just the wind until I heard birds right outside the door and the cat was sitting at the door at attention. Turns out that some of the birds were making off with pieces of the straw that made up most of the wreath. Flushed one out when I opened the door and a second was making a beeline for the wreath and had to change plans when I stepped outside.

Guess it is just an easy source of building materials but now it is kind of shabby looking. I’ll leave it up for a bit though because it is being used for a good purpose.

We took Tigger the cat out today on his harness/leash. He hasn’t been outside since we brought him in back in the fall because, around hear, an indoor cat is a better option. Coyotes and cars are real hazards around here. But we thought he might enjoy getting out again. He did walk a few steps but the harness isn’t his thing yet so there was a lot of sitting and just sniffing the air.

Went to the turtle pond today for the first time since fall and saw four turtles out taking advantage of the sunshine and warmer temperatures. They only have a few days before it will be too cold to be out but we’ll be going back now on warmer days. Peak turtle times are generally through mid April (depending on the temperatures) so this is just the start.

This early in the year, the warm weather is really just a tease but you can still enjoy it.
