I did plan to write something yesterday but Windows had different plans. I can always tell when there is an update out there because certain apps start to act wonky. Mostly the browser I prefer to use which isn’t from one of the big boys. I’ll admit it has issues but I secretly wonder if Microsoft doesn’t design some incompatibilities hoping I’ll get frustrated and switch over to Edge.
And yesterday seemed to be some kind of pre-update. Still took forever and it got stuck on the “Preparing Windows Do Not Shut Down Your Computer” screen for so long that I ignored the message and shut down anyway. Did get back up and running but it through everything off and I ended up doing other things.
But they weren’t done messing with me yet. Got on this morning and things were still acting up. Went to the shut down and those dreaded “Update and …” showed up as options. This time, the update didn’t take as long but then I had to go to PT and do some other errands.
I just wonder how much time gets wasted because of these stupid updates. And most of them just seem to be to fix security issues that they didn’t find before the launched the previous version. Every now and then they toss in some “improvements” but I never really notice anything. I’m a little familiar with software updates and I get that changing something might break something else in the code and that is isn’t really possible to find all the bugs before releasing a version but it feels like a big company like Microsoft could do a better job.
Then again, they are a big company and most of us are tied to Windows with no other real options so what are you going to do? And they know that we are a captive audience so if they have to push update after update to fix problems they didn’t find, well that’s our problem and not theirs.
Did have another lesson last night and we ended up having to demonstrate some Argentine Tango for a new couple. This happens a lot. I’m the “look what this dance can turn into” guy. I think the instructor was showing them Argentine Tango and it didn’t really perk their interest, so I get called on to demonstrate what it could look like. We talked to them briefly afterwards and I could see why they were a bit turned off so maybe I helped.
I don’t really mind although I know that the studio wants to push students into as many dances as they can because more dances equals more lessons. I never get a cut though. (Just kidding) I’m just glad he didn’t say Waltz or Cha-Cha because I wasn’t going to be able to do those well with my calf but the Argentine Tango was OK.
