Had my second lesson since the injury today. We reviewed the Waltz stuff and then went into the Rumba. Again, this is not dancing up to speed or with serious technique. It is just about learning the details of the patterns.
We are exactly a month past Showcase. The good news is that the pain in my calf continues to go away. But, once again, even though we were more walking through than dancing, I did start to feel it in the calf during the lesson. It went away quickly once we stopped but it is a clear sign that I’m not yet ready to go all out.
We are going to incorporate some light stretching before starting from now on. PJ thinks this will be good to get the muscles loosened up before we get started. Probably a good idea since dance does put a lot of stress and jumping in cold might be a recipe for making things worse.
I really want to jump back into things. It was hard to just walk through the steps – more so with the Waltz because we weren’t doing the rise and fall which is what defines the dance. And I know it will feel different once I’m able to do the rise and fall. Patience is sometimes not my strong suit.
Do have another lesson scheduled for tomorrow night. I’m not sure we’ll get back to doing double lessons this year though. If I was feeling it in the middle of a single, then trying to dance a double lesson doesn’t seem like a good idea. Hard sometimes to listen to your body but it has to be done. Full recovery is the goal.
To switch subjects a bit, our cat loves to find places to hide. I guess that’s a cat thing but it might also be because he lived outdoors for so long and I’m sure finding safe shelter was important. For some reason, he’s discovered a shelf in my computer desk where he can get behind the stuff I’ve got and sleep with his back against the back of the desk.
It doesn’t look comfortable but he seems to feel safe there. While I’m typing this, he’s currently taking a nap. As long as he doesn’t knock anything over, I guess there is no harm. Cats are sure different than dogs though.

Amazing post
Wow, it’s great to hear that you had your second lesson since the injury and that the pain in your calf is continuing to go away. Incorporating light stretching before starting sounds like a good idea to prevent further issues. Patience can be challenging, but full recovery is definitely worth it! On a different note, I’m curious if you’ve noticed any improvements in your dancing despite taking it slow? Great blog post! How have you been able to stay motivated during your recovery process?[/result-end]
