Another Birthday

So yesterday was my birthday. I know it is just a number but there are still times when I have to shake my head and wonder if I could really be in my early 60s. At some point, it may catch up with me but it still doesn’t feel quite right.

Don’t get me wrong, some day I feel every single year of it. But, for the most part, it doesn’t seem all that much different from 40 or 50. I listen to a bit of music from my youth and, as long as I don’t think about how old the song actually is, it doesn’t really feel like that much time has passed.

I remember my 40th. We were on vacation and out to dinner. At a nearby table was a group of girls with one of them celebrating her 20th birthday. So they made a big announcement to the restaurant to embarrass her. I kind of regret not immediately standing up and announcing my own birthday but it felt better to leave the day to her.

Now, I realize that she’s in her early 40’s which just makes me feel that much older.

I feel like I should have some words of wisdom to share but I probably wouldn’t have listened to someone my age many years ago so we’ll just leave those out.

Did have a nice dinner. Our server was one of those who thinks everything is awesome or perfect and all our choices were good ones. Not that I minded. I’m sure it can be difficult to remain pleasant and upbeat when you have to deal with the general public and it makes the experience better when you’ve got someone who seems to be happy to be there.

At the end, as she’s giving us the check, she makes a comment about liking my shirt because it would be something her Dad would wear. Kind of a strange thing to say but maybe my fashion sense hasn’t deteriorated with age.
