Mini Dance Break

This weekend is the big dance event that I debated attending. The good news is that after I declined, my sister firmed up their dates and they’ll be here this weekend. PJ is competing meaning that she’ll be gone on Friday when I normally take my double lessons.

We had our normal Wednesday but someone mistakenly booked her with a new student. To be honest, I’m not sure it was really a mistake. I mean they had to enter it into the computer which would have shown my standing lesson. So unless there was a computer glitch, it does seem like someone ignored the fact that she already had a lesson at the same time.

Yes, it is a bit annoying but it isn’t worth making a fuss about it. If I had to guess, I would say the new student had limited flexibility and, rather than potentially lose them, they gave them the time slot they wanted. Again, that’s just a guess and they figure I can reschedule.

Originally, we were going to do an earlier lesson today but I thought about it and decided I didn’t really want to do that. I’ll be honest – there is a part of me that just didn’t want to be inconvenienced for a mistake someone else made. It is possible that a slot will open up tomorrow. If not, it will be a week without lessons for the first time since around Christmas I think.

And I’m not all that upset about it. We are in the middle of learning the Bolero choreography for the routine we plan to do at the next Showcase and a week off will be a bit of a set back but another part of me welcomes the mini break. I’ll still go in tonight for the formation practice and if the right time slot opens up tomorrow, I’ll take the lesson. But if it doesn’t, that is alright with me.

Like everything else, balance is required. Practice time is what makes the Showcases go so well but it also is a lot of hard work. I’m not really feeling burned out which is when I know I need to take a break but sometimes you don’t know how much you need a break until you take one. I do have video of the routine so my one goal for the week is to try and sketch out the routine in my notes. That will help when we resume lessons next week.

And I plan on enjoying Friday night since my sister will be in town. Might be another State Fair trip in the works.
