Last Week Roundup

Should I state the obvious that it’s been a bit since I last posted. Well I guess just did.

I find that my most creative moments are in the morning so that’s when I’d typically write something up. Then the cat came into our home and he’s most active in the morning as well. More on him later but he likes a little quality time in the morning before settling down to nap most of the afternoon away.

Also, I’ve been trying to learn some Spanish from this website. Why? I took some in high school but never followed through but I always like the way stuff sounds in Spanish. And Spanish is certainly becoming more common so it might be nice to try and understand a little more. I haven’t really thrown myself into it but I like doing it in the morning because I’m generally sharper in the morning.

Mornings are also when I like to do my work outs. OK, I’m a morning person. I’ve never been one of those who needs to hit the snooze multiple times. I don’t jump right out of bed at the crack of dawn but, once I wake up, I just get up and get things started. Like I said, I feel sharper in the morning and I’ll start to fade a bit late in the afternoon.

And I like to run any errands before lunch so there’s lots of stuff that gets done in the morning and then I get to the afternoon and rarely feel like writing anything. So you get serious gaps in my post schedule.

Now on to the random stuff from the last week or so.

A Korean fried chicken place opened next to the international market we frequent. We watched the signs and the “Coming Soon” just waiting for it to finally open. I did some internet searches and it turns out to be a franchise from South Korea. Probably shouldn’t be shocked. I mean we sent McDonalds and Starbucks out to conquer the world so why wouldn’t they send their stuff here.

This is actually the second chicken chain that’s made it here from South Korean. They have several locations on the coasts (a lot in California which isn’t a shock) and now are moving inland. Being in the Midwest we do tend to be a little slower when it comes to trends. Anyway, the chicken in both places was great. Sorry KFC but you’ve been dethroned.

My dance lessons last week apparently went really well. I have to assume this based on PJ’s comments which are based on what she feels as I’m trying to lead her through things. Can’t really say why. I know I wasn’t overly happy with Showcase although it turned out I did much better than I thought. Maybe just getting out of the Showcase prep mode was enough to let me turn down the thinking part and just dance. We’ll see if it continues this week.

I mentioned the cat earlier. I think I also mentioned that enjoys a little lap time in the evening before we put him to bed downstairs. I could spend all night on the computer and just go right to bed but now I stop to give him his time. Yes, I’m his favorite person and my wife is OK with that because she’s allergic so having him sit with her is problematic.

Cats are typically viewed as aloof and it is true that he only wants companionship when he wants it. But it is also clear that he needs contact with us humans. It makes me feel sad that he ended up outside on his own. I know he could survive just fine because he found food and water but it couldn’t have been a totally happy life (I’m making assumption about the emotional range of cats). I do know he is much more relaxed sleeping with me than he was those first nights we saw him sleeping around the house. So he certainly seems to be happier.

We are also having the first extended heat wave of the summer. I know it technically isn’t summer yet but June is summer like December is winter. I get why they use the solstices as seasonal boundaries but it isn’t reality. And we get the humidity with the heat so they play up the heat index to make you feel even more miserable. For instance, it is 89 right now but if “feels like” 96. Don’t really need the whole “feels like” thing. Step outside and you know it is hot and you know you need to be careful if you need to spend any significant amount of time working outside. But it gives them something to talk about so we’re stuck with it.

Well that’s all I’ve really got for now.
