Special Delivery

Not sure what to make of the above quote. Don’t we want comfort and convenience. Or maybe too much of them becomes a bad thing. The convenience theme is relevant though.

I’m finding that cats need more toys than dogs. Dogs are easily distracted by the outdoors and really don’t need much more than something to chew on every now and then. Cats (at least our cat) need a wide variety of things to play with. They want to choose what to bat around the room.

The favorite toy is one that requires participation from us. Just a simple wand with a line attached and some feathers hooked to the line. Depending on his mood, we either have him stalk it across the floor or jump up and try to grab it. Sometimes, he gets lazy and just wants to lie there and bat at it when it comes over his head.

Most of the time, we can keep it away from him but there are times when he moves faster than we expect and he can capture the feathers. We made the mistake of trying to yank on the rod but he held on tight and the rubber end popped off. We tried taping it but it didn’t really stay in place. Last night, it was too far gone for even the tape.

I noticed that this morning when I tried to play with him and realized the toy was a goner. The first thought was just a quick trip to the pet store except I had a few other things to take care of and they were in the opposite direction of the pet store. Secondly, I can never walk out of there with just one item.

Then I got online and found out I could get same day delivery from the pet store! I’ll admit it felt a little silly ordering just a replacement wand and knowing that someone was going to have to drive to the pet store and pick it up and then drive it to my house. It just seems a little over the top. But it saved me a stop and limited my purchases to just the one item.

Plus the cat’s playtime does not suffer a serious interruption.

I don’t think I’ll be using this option too often. I old enough that physical shopping is what I’m used to. Something about being able to hold something before you buy it I guess. But, in a pinch, I’m glad the option exists.

OK, next time I’ll just drive to the pet store.
