Tuesday Thoughts

Got our taxes back from the tax guy yesterday. Had to start using a tax guy when my wife started her own business because that’s way too complicated for Turbo Tax. So now I get to collect all the various papers and things and hand it over to someone to figure it all out. Wasn’t a big deal but its one of those little distractions because there were things I had to do once I got the email. Like pay the tax guy. I’m thinking you couldn’t pay me enough to have to deal with all those forms and tables so I’m glad there are people who actually like doing that stuff.

After that, I had a whole bunch of things to do. Ended up at the bank. They had their own set of geese with one nesting in the mulch right next to the building. Think there was some kind of ornamental grass where she built the nest. The male was standing guard on the sidewalk near the nest and nobody was parking in the three spaces close to them. The good news is that the entrance to the bank can be reached without getting within the zone where the male goose figures he’s got to drive you off.

There is a retaining pond in an apartment complex not too far from the bank so this isn’t as bad of a choice as the geese that nested by the farmer’s market. They can reach the water without having to cross any busy streets so that’s a plus. But the bank is surrounded on two sides by roads with lots of traffic so if they choose poorly, it won’t end well.

Also made a stop at the bookstore. The bulk of my fiction reading is done using e-books so I only stop in to pick up sports related books and magazines. Like most stores, they have a rewards plan that I signed up for but, since most of my purchases on online, I really don’t track the points. Turns out I had enough to get some money off the price of what I was buying. And, for some reason, they were giving out free tote bags so I scored one of those as well.

Its the small, unexpected things that make life fun.

We’ll end with a cat story and some cat logic I can’t figure out. As I’ve said before, we shut Tigger away at night and he’s figured out the drill and he’s doesn’t always want to comply. He’s usually sitting with me at night and when I get up, he heads downstairs by himself like he’s going to be and then veers away to go hide under the couch.

The first night he did this, we tried to get him out from under the couch but were not successful. We tried treats which he happily took but stayed out of reach and under the couch. Then, we just went upstairs and he followed a few minutes later so I grabbed him and brought him back downstairs to put him away.

He’s gone under the couch the last couple of nights and now we just skip the attempts to get him and just go back upstairs and wait him out. Sure enough, he can’t stay away for long so I can grab him and carry him back downstairs. You might think he’d be struggling since he didn’t want to go to bed in the first place, but he just accepts his fate once I’ve got him. Can’t quite figure that out. Why the detour under the couch if he’s just going to pop out a few minutes later and be just fine with me carrying him back downstairs.

For the record, I usually do carry him. It is just these last couple of days when he doesn’t wait for me and just head downstairs on his own. Until the couch calls to him and he goes there for a bit. Cats are strange creatures.
