We went to the patio show yesterday and found out we disagree on at least one thing. Many of the displays included sections with decorative paving stones. Some of them left spaces in between filled in with small rocks. In one case, grass was planted between the stones. She liked the look. I didn’t.
We have a spot in the yard where we can’t grow grass to save our lives. We’ve tried many times but it sits on the north side of the house surrounded by trees and in an area that doesn’t drain. The combination of shade and wetness seems to repel grass. We’ve had the trees trimmed to open up the area and we can get grass to start but it never lasts.
Anyway, I mention this because she things it would be better to just rip out the grass and go with the stone look for that part of the yard. I don’t see it. We don’t actually get out there very often and it feels like the reason you put down a path is to walk across it. Plus, I think it would look great the first year. Then, the rain and snow would probably wash away some of the little stones and/or loosen up the big ones. So it would be a constant battle to keep it looking good.
So we’ll just leave it “natural” for now. I thought about trying to just mulch the area and add some plants but we still have the whole lack of light thing. Plus, it borders on the woods so I’m sure we’d lose some of it to the deer. But we can go to show and dream about what could be.
Today was a bright, sunny day. Still a little chilly but sunny enough to want to be outside for a bit. Too cold for the turtles to be out though. But there are signs of spring everywhere. Certain bushes have already leafed out and there are trees filled with buds just ready to pop. My allergies don’t like the trees but I’d rather sneeze than freeze so moving out of winter is still a positive.
I did have to get a haircut today. Not real high on my list of things I like to do but it had been too long. Always feels kind of awkward. Like you don’t want to appear rude but small talk can be painful but it kind of beats the alternative which is just a weird silence. At least it has been checked off the list and I won’t have to worry about it for many weeks.
Now, I’m just waiting until later to go into the studio for formation practice. The good thing about the time change is that it will still be relatively light when I leave. Last week, we actually got an idea of what the thing might look like. So it no longer looks like a bunch of people randomly dancing sort of the same thing.
Not a lot to do but I like it that way. Monday’s are a whole lot nicer when you don’t have to get up and go to work.
