Snowy Monday

If only the above were true. More and more we live in a time where nobody thinks they can slow down and very few are present and aware.

Yesterday, we did another Christmas themed event where a lot of it was walking around and looking at various light displays. For winter, the weather was good. It was still cold but it was above freezing and there was very little wind to speak of so, with the heavy jacket and layers, it was OK to walk around.

My only complaint was the number of times large groups of people were walking towards us and taking up the entire path. It wasn’t one-way but these folks were so caught up in their own little worlds that I guess it never occurred to them that they might need to leave space for people walking the other way.  It was like we were inconveniencing them by walking.

Still, a few idiots didn’t destroy the night. It was fun. Something about walking around at night with lights all around you.

Had plans to do another one tonight but we got a blast of winter today. Tonight looks to be cold and windy and any time you have to worry about a wind chill is not a time to be outside. Plus, we go to this one primarily for the various food options and trying to eat with gloves (or taking them on and off constantly) doesn’t sound like fun. Good thing we didn’t have to buy tickets so we can shift that to later in the week when the temperatures are going to warm up a bit.

Which means we can spend the day indoors and that’s the place to be on a cold, windy day. Had some snow squalls blow through the area but the good news is that the ground and roads are still too warm for anything to stick. It did stick on trees and other places and I think this counts as our first snowfall of the year. More to come for sure.

Went to the Snowball dance on Saturday night. As planned, I left my dance shoes at home so I wouldn’t be tempted to get up and dance. My calf is at a point where it doesn’t really hurt but it isn’t fully healed and that is the time where it would be easy to re-injure it. I did dance one Rumba at the beginning of the night and it wasn’t all that happy with me so it was probably a good idea to leave the shoes at home.

While it was fun to watch people do their routines, it was hard to sit and watch everyone else dance. Dance is kind of like an addiction – hard to kick. Especially when the perfect song comes on and you want to get out and have fun. Just a couple more weeks though and I should be good to go.

And the Christmas presents to the siblings have been mailed. Always nice when that is accomplished. Hard to believe Christmas is in a week. As a kid, it always seemed to take forever for Christmas to arrive. As an adult it feels like the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is just a couple of days.

Trying to find positive quotes about winter and snow that I can actually sort of believe. I can see this one although all I think about is how wet and cold your feet get after walking through snow.
