Injured List

The sports medicine doctor seems to have been a good call. He had me run through a few things checking motion and pain. His call was that I had some kind of muscle strain/tear in my calf. He said the first couple of weeks were the worst but it could take up to six weeks for full healing. Recommended some physical therapy as well. He expects there won’t be any issues with recovery but that I needed to avoid strenuous activity because it could aggravate the situation and cause healing to take longer.

So this throws a bit of a wrench into the dancing though. I talked to PJ after I got back and we cancelled the lessons for tomorrow. I kept next week open so we can at least sit and talk and figure out if there are ways to just walk through things. Maybe focus more on the steps without worrying about doing stuff up to timing because it will be awhile before I’m able to dance full out.

This is also the end of trying to get a little routine ready for the winter dance in mid December. Just don’t see that being possible. It also means I won’t be earning a heck of a lot of points in the semi-annual contest because I’ve already missed three weeks of lessons, groups and parties. And I won’t be doing any groups anytime soon. If I do attend a party, it will be more as a spectator because dancing needs to be limited. Don’t want this to drag on longer than it needs to.

In a way, this is the best time for something like this to happen. As we get closer to Christmas, dancing naturally winds down and I typically have the last two weeks off. I just don’t want to take the entire six weeks off which is why I want to see if there is at least something we can do to keep moving forward. Either way, there is going to be rust to shake off but the next Showcase is not until June so there is time to get back into form.

Anyway, that’s where we are now. Full dancing is off the table for the next couple of weeks but we’ll work something out so I don’t have to totally stay away from it.
