Thanksgiving Week Recap

I seem to be at a one post a week frequency. But without dancing, there isn’t a lot of new stuff to write about.

I am still having some pain in my calf. I did make an appointment to see someone and I go in tomorrow morning. I don’t expect an immediate fix but I do hope they can identify an issue and figure out what to do about it. I mean that’s really about all we can expect from medicine these days.

I was actually glad I was able to get in to see someone relatively quickly. I can forget about seeing my primary care doc since his first available appointments are in February. Other options are the immediate care places but, as I found out earlier, their kind of limited in what they can deal with. And taking something like this to the ER makes no sense. I thought about my ortho doc but if it is anything, it is muscle and not bone or joint. But I had an option to try a sports medicine doc and that’s what I’m doing. If it happened because of the dancing, then it makes sense.

I suppose I could dance on it because I’ve certainly been able to walk on it. Walking doesn’t seem to aggravate it but I’m not sure about dancing. Plus, I really hoping to have some kind of root cause because there may be reasons to continue to rest. Won’t know until I see someone tomorrow. May not know then but at least I’ll have a better idea.

Enough about that. We had a nice dinner for the two of us on Thanksgiving. Found a place that sold smoked turkey breast so we got one. Ended up with stuffing, sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts as sides. Still had way too much food so we did the leftover thing on Saturday and will have to work Turkey into the menu a few times this week.

Side note – Brussel sprouts were something I’d never eat growing up. That was because Pop would only eat vegetables one way – boiled to death and smothered with butter. Nothing worse than the smell of boiled cabbage like things. But if you saute them with some bacon and garlic to get a crispy outer and then steam in a little liquid just to get them cooked through, they are actually pretty tasty.

Oh and we had pumpkin pie for desert. Didn’t make it – we bought it from a restaurant that serves pies. I’m more of a pecan pie person but my wife doesn’t like the gooey interior so we went with the classic.

Friday we went to get a tree because our tradition is to get things up the day after Thanksgiving. The guys responsible for tying the tree to the car must have been rookies because it shifted quite a bit on the drive home. Good thing we didn’t have far to go and it did stay on. Had to do some emergency lower limb removal when it started to fall over after we got the lights and some of the ornaments on. The limbs were preventing the stand from securely grabbing the tree so that was fun.

The cat seems to enjoy the tree. He’s not shown any interest in batting at the shiny ornaments but he seems to think that sleeping under the tree is a good thing. We’ve found him there a few times. Not sure why but as long as he doesn’t knock anything over, its all good.

And we did one of our touristy things on Saturday night. One of the places in town that does an outdoor display and you walk through and look at the various sections with different types of lights. It was finally cold but there was no wind which meant we were fine with the heavy coats and gloves. Got more to do but there is still lots of time to get it done.

Was kind of worn out when we got to Sunday and it ended up raining most of the day so staying inside was the best idea. Had a video conference with my siblings to catch up and that was nice.

So it was a busy weekend but that might be the trend for the next couple of weeks.
