So Where Have I Been

It was quite a week. I think I mentioned this but I started to have some breathing issues on my lesson on Tuesday. Could get through one dance and then I needed to sit out and catch my breath. We ran through both routines and the Peabody was the worst. Also, while doing a Bolero, I heard something in my right knee pop. This is not the knee that I typically have problems with.

I felt bad enough that I ended up going to a urgent care on Thursday. I mean you don’t have good choices since my family doctor is booked beyond belief so your options are urgent care where they can do a few things or the ER where they can do more but you’re going to spend a lot more money and time.

Wish I could tell you that they had a simple solution and things got better but that wasn’t the case. I kind of think our health system is just a bunch of algorithms where they rule out the most serious and then hope for the best. They checked my lungs which sounded fine. They hooked me up to an ECG and did a chest x-ray but I wasn’t having a heart attack.

The best they could figure, it was my GERD acting up. Did not know that could lead to shortness of breath but I guess it can. Was given a change in prescription and sent on my merry way.

Was checking my vitals through the FitBit and could see some things moving in the right direction but nowhere near back to normal.

Anyway, I gave it my best shot at Showcase. As luck would have it, there were several times when I had multiple heats in the row and that wasn’t going to happen. So I did some picking and choosing to at least try to do each of the dances – just not as many as I had signed up for.

The solos were in the middle of the day and I got through both of them. Then we hit the rhythm rounds and, at the beginning, I had bigger gaps between heats so I could dance, rest and then dance again. It was looking good until my right knee decided to act up again. I tried to push on but the instability was a big problem, so I had to call it an early day.

They got me a big bag of ice and I sat in the back with that on the knee for a bit. I’m not even sure how many dances I ended up doing but it was far from what I signed up for. Like the smooth heats, they back loaded my rhythm rounds so most of my heats were at the end (and right in a row). So I didn’t get to do any Rumbas, Cha-Chas, Swings or Mambos.

Not exactly the day I was hoping for.

But, because I got the last routine in, I got my major award. What I didn’t expect was that the two judges who had just done the pro show handed it to me and I got my picture with them and PJ. She said I danced beautifully so I really wish I was able to have done more but sometimes your body doesn’t cooperate.

Somewhere in the process, I also ended up straining my calf so I’ve been limping around a bit as well. I’ve had to cancel my lessons for this week. So a week of ups and downs. I’m hoping things start to turn around soon.
