Out of the Shadows

One of the things about the leaves falling is that it reveals things in the woods that were hidden. We’ve seen a barred owl in the trees outside our house many times in the last several days. The barred owls have raised young for the last three years and I can’t say if this is the same owl that has been around but I do like the fact that they stick around.

I have to overlook the fact that this owl is scoping out the birds who are coming to our feeders. Circle of life and all. I do hope he’s able to catch some mice because I know they are out there and this is the time of year when they move inside. Hoping Tigger the cat is able to help with that as well but I’m fine with the owl reducing the mice population.

Then we had two deer down in the woods. Heard the rustling leaves but now you can see them walking around. We certainly know the deer are there – the evidence is all over our flower beds. And we do see them cross the lawn from time to time but now they will be more visible.

It isn’t all great. With the leaves gone, I can see the cars on the nearby busy road more clearly. It was nice to have them blocked out. Plus the neighbor’s houses are visible. With the leaves out, it was easier to imagine that we were in some deep woods.

The lack of leaves and the changing angle of the sun now lights up my office during the late afternoon. Enough so I can’t really do anything on the computer although that might not be a bad thing since I do spend way too much time here. I did move to the living room to sit and read and that gave Tigger the opportunity to jump up and sit with me. I do think he would much prefer it if we would just sit down in the comfortable chairs all day to give him a nice napping spot.

And with that, I’ll sign off.
