Labor Day Wrap Up

Last week was a little chaotic as we had various crews here working on our decks. They wrapped on Friday and everything looks almost brand new again. We’ve been slowly moving stuff back. I say slowly because it’s been hot and my wife wanted to clean the lawn chairs so they need to dry first. But the flowers and bird feeders are back in position – the important stuff. The rest will follow at some point.

And this was the weekend that our internet service decided to just quit. The web portal was no help at all. Got a message that they detected something but the only “fix” was to tighten loose cables. Was a little concerned that all the deck work kicked something loose but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Guess we’ll find out on Wednesday when someone shows up to see what the problem is.

The good news is that our phone plan includes unlimited data (there’s a reason why we did this but it would take too long to explain and isn’t very interesting). So we can use the phones as hot spots and access the internet that way. Took a bit to figure that out and life without the internet is certainly different. I’m old enough to remember life before but now I’m so used to doing stuff like this that it would be hard to go back.

The long term weather forecast has changed and now we have just two hot days before things become more fall like. I do love summer but we’ve got a couple of outdoor festivals coming up the next two weekends and it is sure nice when it isn’t overly hot.

I don’t think I discussed the two coaching lessons I had last week. We got to work with the guy who choreographed our Argentine Tango and it was great to get additional pointers on some of the steps. The other one worked on Viennese Waltz and should help to smooth out the rough parts of our routine. The next Showcase is just about a month away so this next month will be a little intense.

Actually, the next two because there is another Showcase in November and we plan to introduce a brand new routine at that one. Right now, we don’t have a finished product so it will be a bit of a scramble. But it is all part of the goal I set earlier this year so we’ll just push through.

Tomorrow we plan to do a big breakfast at a local spot we enjoy. We aren’t big into brunch so we tend to do it on holidays. Not sure why but it just seems to be the way to go.

It is a little odd that we have Labor Day but so many people still have to work. Plus all the stores have Labor Day sales so if you aren’t working, you are supposed to be spending money. Then again, every three day weekend turns into that so we kind of forget why we had the holiday in the first place.
