All Mixed Up

The deck work is going to be a multi day process. The power washing was yesterday. Then, there are some minor repairs needed. Finally, we are getting it sealed and stained. Once that dries, everything can be put back into place.

This means all of the bird feeders and the bird bath that are attached to the deck railings have to be put away for several days. The birds haven’t quite figured it out yet so we still see them fly in looking for the normally reliable food sources that are no longer there. We do have other feeders so it isn’t like the cupboard is completely bare but I think they get used to eating at certain spots.

It also means that we’ve had to take the flower pots off the deck railings and set them in the yard. This would make them easy pickings for the deer but, at least for one night, they have survived.

I did see a doe walking with her two fawns yesterday while working out. Fortunately, that is on the other side of the house so they didn’t realize the bonanza of flowers that was now available. But she is probably showing the fawns other yards in the neighborhood so they can continue the practice of eating everything in sight. I’ll admit it is hard to be that upset when looking at cute baby deer.

It will be nice when this is finally done and I can move everything back. But I will say the power washing made things look much better.

We had another formation practice last night. We have about two months before Showcase which seems like a lot of time but with only one practice a week, it actually isn’t a lot of time. The good news is that we are nearly through what they want us to do. The bad news is that some of this new stuff is more difficult than the first part of the routine.

I know that they like to break things into small pieces so it doesn’t overwhelm anyone but, having done a few of these, it always seems like the last bits get rushed because we spend so much more time going over the stuff in the beginning. I guess it might also be a way to make sure we at least start out OK. It’s not great if the formation goes off the rails in the very first movements.

The other bit of good news is that we’ve had everyone show up for the last couple of practices. Makes it easier when we don’t have to recap for those who missed. I say this knowing I’m likely to miss next Monday (I’ve heard they still plan to do a practice even though it is Labor Day and the studio should be closed).

Have no idea what the end product will look like. I just hope everyone remembers this is primarily just for fun.
