The cooler weather is gone for a bit as summer makes one last stand. OK, it may not be the last stand but we are due for a week very much unlike the last couple. I know a lot of the country has been in the roaster and we’ve mostly missed that this summer so I guess it is just time for us to experience some real heat just in time for August to wave farewell.
This morning it was wonderful. Temperatures right around 70 with a nice breeze while we took our morning walk. Birds were chirping, insects were buzzing and it was the kind of morning you want to bottle and experience over and over again.
Right now, we sit at 88 degrees but it feels like 96. Got to love whoever came up with that chart. Not feeling bad enough about the heat? Well now we can convince you that it is even hotter than you think. Doesn’t that make you feel worse?
Not that I really need a “feels like” temperature. You just step outside and it feels like you’ve just opened the oven door. I’ve said that in my work life, I ended up needing to learn quite a bit about dew points and the combination of temperature and humidity and I understand concerns about heat exhaustion/heat stroke but can’t we just say that it is hot and take it easy if you need to be outside.
The downside of my dew point knowledge is that I inwardly cringe every time someone says its 90 degrees with 90% humidity. No, it doesn’t work that way around here.
And then we have both a heat advisory and an air quality alert in place. The heat advisory runs through Friday. Given that they are calling for temps in the upper 90’s towards the end of the week, I think we could have figured that out. But thanks for the warning. The air quality alert only runs through Tuesday but I think the odds are good that it gets extended.
So lots and lots of words and warnings to just say it is going to be really hot and maybe you shouldn’t spend all day outside.
Ironically, I’ve got someone coming to look at our furnace/ac on Wednesday. This is just one of those routine inspections I pay for. The system is currently working just fine. Not sure if the inspections are worth the cost but since I know next to nothing about HVAC, I’m good with having someone who knows a little more look at things from time to time.
And I also hope that the AC in the dance studio is fully functional. Probably still going to be an uncomfortable week.
