The Week that Will Be

Somehow, tomorrow is the last day of July. While we are still in summer, there will be more and more signs of fall in the coming weeks.

The heat that has gripped much of the country had avoided us until the end of last week where we strung together a couple of days in the 90’s with high dew points creating a really high heat index. I kind of feel like heat index was invented to make us feel more uncomfortable. When you walk outside and you can feel the air around you, then you know it is time to take it easy.

If you can believe long range forecasts, the super heat is gone for now. Although the thing about summer is that the sun feels hot no matter what the temperature is. We were out walking this morning and, even though it was only in the upper 70’s, the parts of the walk in the sun felt much hotter. Made the shaded parts feel all that much better.

The cicadas were warming up a bit this morning. We’ve noticed them more the last couple of weeks. When we used to go more of the outdoor concerts, it was always funny when the cicadas started to warm up with the orchestra. Like they were trying to outdo them. But it is another sign that we are deep into summer.

We have people coming next week to do some work around the house. Really just pressure washing and then sealing our decks because it has been awhile since that was done and the wood is looking a little weathered. Plus we have spots where the woodpeckers have been busy so we need some repairs.

It’s necessary but it is a bit of a disruption just because you’ve got people around the house and strange vehicles parked in the driveway. They are really good about moving if we need to get out so I’ve got nothing really to complain about but I’ll just be glad when it is over. Plus, we have to move all the flowers off the deck rails and move all the other assorted flower pots my wife has on the deck. And when I say “we” I mostly mean “me”. Good thing it is not going to be super hot though.

Our State Fair started on Friday. My siblings who live out of town are coming in two weeks and we’ll do a day at the fair because one of them has never seen the spectacle. But we have multiple trips planned and the first one should be on Sunday. Nothing wrong with going with the family but we don’t all have the same interests so we can go and check out what we want to.

And it will be a full week of dancing. Formation practice on Monday night and then going through all the routines during my private lessons. I’ve got four to get down. Two need to be done by mid October and the other two by mid November. Good news is that the choreography is complete for three and now we are just rehearsing. The fourth is still in planning stages but we don’t need that one until November so there is time.

Well that’s what I’ve got coming up.
