Because I no longer work, I have no reason to get up early. But after many years of doing so, sleeping late is really just not an option. Plus, I’m a light sleeper so outside noises tend to wake me up. But it doesn’t mean that I want to get up super early either.
We love the birds. I’ve got around eight feeders set up all around the house. Yes, that is a bit excessive. And we live near a lot of wooded areas so we get a wide assortment of birds around our place. Most of the time, that is a good thing. But some days ….
We’ve had this one bird who really seems to like certain trees just outside our bedroom. I’m not enough of an expert to recognize the bird from the call but I know enough to know this is one who makes our area a summer home and then heads for warmer climes in the winter.
But this bird loves to sing. All day long. And loudly. The other day, the song started before sunrise. Sounded like it was right outside the window. And birds don’t come with a snooze button. So my day started much earlier than I would have liked.
From what I read, there are many reasons why birds call so picking the exact one is impossible since we don’t understand what they are trying to say. My best guess is we’ve got a male looking for a girlfriend and he’s bragging about this wonderful space he’s picked out. And they like to sing early in the morning because it is quieter (less traffic) and the song carries more so maybe a female far, far away will hear it and come flying in.
If that is the case, I certainly hope he finds a mate soon. Didn’t really appreciate the wake up call.
