We are down to the last lessons before Showcase. So we did all the dances last night. Started with Waltz, Tango, Fox Trot and Viennese Waltz. Then went through Country Two Step, Peabody, Hustle, Argentine Tango and West Coast Swing. Walked through both routines and then did several runs of the Country Two Step. Finished with the Cha-Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero and Mambo.
The conditions in the studio were as bad as I expected so I was a mess at the end of the lesson. I don’t know if it is the temperature so much as it is the stagnant indoor humid air. I work out at home and I’ve got this big fan set up and there is just something about having air movement that makes the difference. I suppose you can’t dance in a walk in cooler so air movement is about all you can hope for.
The weather forecast still calls for hot conditions on Sunday although not as hot as before. I do have a portable fan which is all charged up and ready to go. Plus, I was told that this year they are giving people the option to have heats spread out or back to back to simulate a competition. I didn’t get asked but PJ tried to get them to space mine out. We’ll see how it goes.
The trusty FitBit gave me a very low readiness score today based off of yesterday where the active minutes were through the roof. You get bonus minutes depending on the heart rate zone and since we ended up doing a lot of the fast, traveling dances at the beginning of the lesson, I suspect it was up for most of the night.
There were three newer couples on the floor with us during the first lesson so it made some of the dances a little more challenging. Got lots of practice weaving in and around people while doing the V Waltz, Peabody and Country Two Step. Didn’t run into anyone so bonus points for that.
One more lesson on Friday. Last chance to hit both routines before Showcase and then some of the other dances that maybe didn’t go as well last night. Always an interesting time right before a big event.
